The pre-education program at Missouri S&T helps meet the need for well-qualified teachers in the schools of Missouri. It also provides a second option for Missouri S&T students. The program is a cooperative effort with the University of Missouri-Columbia's College of Education. The pre-education program is balanced between general arts and and science education and professional competence in teaching. It provides an appropriate foundation for graduate study in related areas of education. The program is open to students pursuing degrees in:

• Chemistry with certification in chemistry.
• Economics with certification in social studies.
• English with certification in language arts-English.
• Geology with certification in earth science.
• History with certification in social studies.
• Biological Sciences with certification in biology or general science.
• Mathematics with certification in mathematics.
• Music minor leading to a certificate in music.
• Physics with a certification in physics.
• Psychology with certification in social studies.
• Speech minor leading to certificate in speech and theater.

There are two program options available:

• Cooperative Secondary Teacher Education Program (Missouri S&T-UMSL). With this option, you may earn a B.A. or B.S. degree in your chosen field from Missouri S&T and a certificate to teach in the secondary schools of Missouri from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
• A Pre-elementary Education Transfer Program is available for those students interested in elementary education.
