Dr. Westenberg and his lab will host our first faculty tea this semester on February 18 at 4:00 p.m. This is a good chance for graduate students to get together monthly to talk to each other and faculty members and exchange ideas. This is a monthly tea and is hosted by a faculty member and his/her lab. Join us for a brief presentation and light refreshments. The faculty tea is a great opportunity to meet and get to know the department faculty, other students, and learn more about the research that is taking place in the department.
National Geographic Grants Workshop

Washington University- St. Louis
The Young Explorers University Workshop is a daytime event on February 22 at Washington University in St. Louis that informs and encourages individuals ages 18 - 25 to apply for National Geographic grants. The event is open to individuals across the region. The workshop will include presentations by outstanding young explorer grantees who will present their projects and future plans in the field. Students will also learn about the elements of a good grant applications and share their own ideas for field projects in breakout groups with National Geographic grantees and staff. Onondoga Cave State Park Recruitment Day

Onondoga State Park
There will be a summer employment recruitment day at Onondoga Cave State Park on February 22 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. They will be hiring tour guides, seasonal naturalists, and seasonal maintenance workers. Phi Sigma Freshman Scholarship

Applications for the Phi Sigma Freshman Scholarship are now being taken. One freshman will receive a one-time scholarship of $500. The application is attached and can be turned into the Biological Sciences office (105 Schrenk) or emailed to Nikki Gomez at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline is February 24 at 2:00 p.m.
Undergraduate Research Day
Undergraduate Research Day will be held on April 16 in the Havener Center. Registration is now open at ugs.mst.edu/undergraduate/ugrc/. The deadline for registration is March 10. OURE recipients are expected to participate. Students can participate in either the poster session or the oral session.

Join the Biology Department and the student clubs - Helix, iGEM, and Scrubs - for our end of the year celebration. We have combined the various end of the year picnics and celebrations into one big party again this year. We will meet in Schrenk Hall, in the Student Study Lounge (room 106) for food, games, awards and presentations. The Bio-Star award and club awards will be presented during the event. Be sure to save the date/time on your calendar for the event.

Our Spring Semester Graduation Reception will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at the Havener Center. BioSci graduates and their families are invited to attend an open house reception. Refreshments will be provided along with a slide show of events and activities of the past year highlighting our graduates in their journey toward graduation. Join us in congratualting our graduating students for Spring Semester 2014.
Commencement ceremonies for Biological Sciences graduates will be held at 6:00pm, following the graduation reception at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
